Does anyone else feel as if they’re juggling a lot at the moment? Jeeez, it can be tiring can’t it? Exams, remembering to pack your P.E. kit, even remembering when your period is due – sometimes it can get a little overwhelming.
Well, good news because if you get organised it can help to ease the stress and make you feel a bit more in control. It’s actually super-easy to get yourself sorted, too! So, if you’re feeling freaked out or in a flap, here are some simple things you can do.
Write a to-do list before bed
Yup, before bed, people. If you write a list of all the things you want to get done the following day before you go to sleep, you’ll wake up feeling fresh and ready to tackle the day. Plus you won’t have lost any sleep trying to remember all those jobs… When you’ve ticked off your to-do list, you feel like you are *totally* winning.
Invest in a diary
Are you the kind of person who puts all of your life events into your phone? That’s great if it works for you, but it doesn’t work for everyone. Some of us like to physically write things down. It can help us remember things better. Want to give it a go? Try leaving your diary open on your bedside table or desk so you can see what you’ve got planned for the week ahead. There are loads of fun diaries out there too – some come with cool stickers, others are super organised and have dividers and pockets. YAS! Invest in a batch of new pens, neon highlighters and fresh notebooks and you’ll feel like you can tackle the world.
Try not to work on your bed
Incase you haven’t already guessed our next point: Don’t work on your bed! Your bed is a place to unwind, relax and sleep. Being hunched over your books/laptop/homework on is not the way to go. If you have a desk, use it! If not, try the kitchen table, the study, the local library. It’s really helpful to be able to compartmentalize things. Keep your bed as an inviting space; somewhere you’ll want to go after a long day to catch some much needed zzz’s.
Look after yourself
If you’re going to bed super late, drinking loads of coffee or energy drinks, bingeing on Netflix and just generally not looking after yourself, you’re bound to feel a little all over the place. The best way to feel calm is to feel calm. What we mean by that is, if you want to feel in control and like you’ve got things sussed, you’ve gotta put the work in. Avoid caffeine in the evenings, try and get an early night, try to eat well and try not to look at your phone all the time. Some people find putting their phone on Airplane mode helps them to avoid looking at it during the night. Some people’s phones sleep outside of their bedrooms and some people use those weird boxes to lock their phones in.
Allocate some time to think about the week ahead
Sunday evening means Monday morning and, seriously, what is worse than a Monday morning? Try to use a few hours of the day to sit and think about the week ahead. Not for too long, but enough to organise your thoughts. Think about the most pressing things you’ve got on, places you’ve got to be and things you need to remember – write them down if you need to. It’s a good way of mentally preparing yourself for the week ahead so that you’re not shell-shocked on Monday morning when you remember you’ve got something on after school or you’ve got a dentist’s appointment in an hour’s time.
Of course, you can’t be organised or prepared for everything. Sometimes life will throw curveballs at you and you’ll have to think on your feet. But if you want to feel a little bit more zen about things and not quite so stressed, definitely try giving these tips a go. The most important thing is not to feel guilty or bad about yourself if you’re not the best at being organised. There’s a lot going on and it can be really hard to remember everything!
