“You’ve got to love yourself first”: 10 celebrity break-up quotes

There’s a very important checklist of things you need to get through a breakup: ice cream (Ben & Jerry’s chocolate fudge brownie), a duvet (or two, robbed from your sister’s room) and your mates (only the good ones that will trash your ex thoroughly, but forget all it later if you want to get back with them).

Heartbreak is one of the few things celebs aren’t immune to, and even worse, they have to do it all under the beady eye of the public. Here are 10 of the best on their breakups and how they came through the other side.

“I just wanted to crawl in my bed and die. But I got out of it the other side, I’m surviving. I kind of saw the light at the end of the tunnel.”

Rita Ora found a way over her breakup with Calvin Harris.

“A heartbroken person is unlike any other person. Their time moves at a completely different pace than ours. It’s this mental, physical, emotional ache and feeling so conflicted. Nothing distracts you from it.”

Queen of breakups Taylor Swift knows a thing or two about harbouring a broken heart.

“People have to go through things in order to become the person that they are today, and that’s that.”

Sarah Hyland uses her breakups as life lessons.

“I woke up and I just knew I was over it. It was a different day. I felt different. I didn’t feel lonely. I felt like I wanted to get up and be in the world. That was a great, great feeling.”

Even bad gal Rihanna has been through it.

“I was crawling on the floor. I remember throwing up. I remember being on the floor… I have never felt anything quite like that. It was so visceral. It’s like someone has killed you and you have to live through it and watch it happen. It was awful.”

Ok this feels a little bit extreme, Emma Stone.

“You’ve got to love yourself first. You’ve got to be OK on your own before you’re OK with someone else. You’ve got to value yourself and know that you’re worth everything.”

You can’t go wrong with life lessons from Jennifer Lopez.

“I don’t ever want to have to need someone again, where you feel like, without them, you can’t be yourself.”

Miley Cyrus definitely found a way to be herself.

“When one person is unhappy, it usually means that two people are unhappy but one has not come to terms with it yet.”

It takes two to tango, says Mindy Kaling.

“I think everyone kind of goes through heartbreak. It definitely isn’t a good feeling. I think having surgery is definitely a lot easier — having a pulmonary embolism is definitely a lot easier than a heartbreak.”

I dunno. I think I know which one I’d choose, Serena Williams.

“You can survive anything. Compared to what other people are surviving out there in the world, this is not so bad, in the grand scheme of things. Human endurance is unbelievable.”

If Jennifer Aniston can get over Brad, you can get over anyone.
